Product Abstract: Citronella Oil is extracted from a resilient grass native to Sri Lanka and Java. It is a very aromatic perennial that grows approximately 1 meter (3 feet) in height. It is often used in combination with Cedarwood to produce pleasant-smelling patio candles and torches.

Exuding a rich, fresh, uplifting scent similar to that of lemon, this fragrant grass has earned the name Citronella from the French word meaning “lemon balm.” It is traditionally used as a flavouring agent in culinary applications, a soothing agent for pain, infections, rashes, and inflammation, a non-toxic insect-repelling agent, a natural and fragrant household cleaning agent.

Citronella oil is considered to be one of the more effective natural insect repellents. The oil also contains compounds like methyl isoeugenol that exert potent antibacterial effects, making citronella useful for treating minor cuts and scrapes or controlling body odour caused by bacteria.

When applied to the scalp, citronella oil can moisturize the skin and hair, preventing dryness, flaking, frizziness, and dandruff.

When used in aromatherapy, citronella oil is said to help prevent or treat a number of common health conditions, including:

Anxiety, Colds, Depression, Difficulty urinating, Flu, Menstrual cramps, Muscle spasms, Stomach ache

Some of these claims are better supported by research than others.
